Cross-Connect
Cross-Cross-Connectâ„¢ allows you
to display the contents of two related SharePoint lists at once, one defined as
the parent list and one defined as the child list, which share at least one
column of common data.
For example, you could have a Cross-Connect that displays
the contents of a customer list (the parent) and a products purchased list (the child).
All of the products that a particular customer has purchased would be indented
and displayed below each customer item. The two lists can exist anywhere, as
long as they are on the same virtual server as the Cross-Connect.
Key technical features of
Cross-Connects:
-
Cross-Connects are new grid
displays that are instantiated as web parts.
-
They are configured through an
administrative interface including the parent-child joins.
-
A Cross-Connect works the normal
way that people do (i.e., you are on a parent record and want to create
a new child). It creates the child record and relates it for you.
-
The lists
or libraries that Cross-Connects work with can be in the same site, different sites,
or across site collections.
-
You can configure what fields
are shown for both parent and child.
-
Cross-Connects support the full range of actions available
to active web parts.
Below is a screen
shot of a Cross-Connect display from the Policy Approval
solution showing individual approvals for various policies. Note that this display is
action-enabled and includes actions to manage the approval process.
