This solution provides a robust way for organizations to collaborate around policies. The solution manages all of your policies. You can then collaborate around each policy with discussions, tasks, documents, and approvals.

Design

This solution is designed as a self-contained site. It solves the problem of having a single place where people can go to collaborate around "things." In this solution, you can submit multiple policies. You can collaborate around each policy. Thus, for each policy, you can have activities for discussions, create and track tasks, create documents, and manage an approval process. The key is the ability to relate all of these collaborative activities to each policy. For instance, you can define five required approvals for a policy, alert users that they need to approve the policy, and track the approvals.

The flow of the design is simple and standardized. It consists of the following:

  • Submit a policy suggestion
  • Perform collaborative activities around the policy
  • See reports about the policies

In this solution, you are collaborating around policies; however, the design can be used to collaborate around a wide variety of business or organizational needs. For instance, you can use this solution to collaborate around problems, ideas, investment proposals, or contracts. This brings the power and reusability of Design Patterns to life by looking beyond the specific “Policy Manager” solution and thinking about its design, and the ways in which information is shared, acted on, and managed.
